Hello all,
We’re looking for some advice re our Armed Forces/Remembrance order of procession, here in Blackpool our Civic procession process from the Town Hall to the Cenotaph (a short walk across the promenade), in recent years our Remembrance service has grown in popularity and as a result more groups would like to be involved and have even arrived at the Town hall without an invite with an expectation to be part of the procession, meaning the procession can be quite busy and messy and a little chaotic trying to find seating once at the Cenotaph. (Our events team have chosen to have all guests seated at the Cenotaph).
My question is, does anyone have any limits to the amount of people within their civic procession?
Any advice or suggestions would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks all!
hello there, here in Dumfries and Galloway Council the events are organised by the Royal British Legion, so they determine the order. However, generally it is British Legion, MPs, MSPs, Councillors, Community Councils (our equivalent to Parish Councils), Police, Fire and Rescue, any other public body (like Health Board) then charities (e.g.RNLI,) Uniform Youth orgs (Guides, Scouts etc) then any others like local schools, sometimes individuals . Hope that’s helpful
Hi Abbie
We wouldnt dare put a restriction on anyone attending. We dont have any seats as that in itself restricts the number of attendees. good luck.
Hi Abbie.
Here is Shrewsbury I organise the Remembrance Parade and short service for the Town in liaison with our lead Military unit at RAF Shawbury and the Royal British Legion. We have a civic parade through the town with organisations such as Military organisation, Veterans, youth organisations, magistrates, police, fire, ambulance representatives, RBL, voluntary organisations etc. Although we don’t in a sense cap numbers attending, we do monitor attendance in accordance with Martyns Law, asking organisations to advise their estimate numbers taking part and we then take any necessary steps to increase our police/security presence to cope with numbers. Attendance also depends on the weather! Our parade starts at Shrewsbury Castle and processes through the Town to our War Memorial for a short outdoor service and where members of the public are invited to join us.
Due to numbers attending not known, we do not provide seating. However we do provide seating if requested, especially for the veterans who are unable to join the parade and we provide a reserved seating area for this.
Hope this helps.
Regards Sally
