Clear days for Mayoral nominations

We are currently having a long discussion regarding nominations for Mayor / Deputy Mayor. We are due elections in May and want to notify / remind Councillors about the process and role of the Mayor / Deputy Mayor.

We appreciate that the Local Govt Act states what a clear day is but in our standing orders it currently states that any Mayoral nomination must be received 7 clear days to the meeting, which puts it at odds with our election results.

We are currently reviewing our standing orders. Is there any reason why we couldn’t shorten this to 5 clear days? I cant seem to see anything that would stop this unless anyone can advise me otherwise.

Thank you in advance

Hi Michael

If you can tell me which council you are, I will study your rules and try to advise. It looks like a local rule is causing the problem as I have seen and been part of nominations received at the Annual Meeting with no prior notice at all.

Give me a call on 07539275911 and I will try to navigate a course for you
