Can I please ask if at the retirement of the Horary Recorder from their substantive role does the title of Honorary Recorder automatically pass to his successor or will this require formal nomination and Council approval?
Hi Katherine, we had to appoint a new Honorary Recorder at full council in 2021. The Law Courts in your area will write to you and let you know who the new HR will be and then we just submitted a business report at the full council meeting, they weren’t given new robes or any other gift. We have a directly elected Mayor in Middlesbrough so do things slightly differently. We had to appoint one in 2012 and the same procedure was followed. Hope that helps
