This is a bit of a random one. I had a meeting with my Chief Executive today, and she asked me why we call Councillors, who were once Lord Mayors - Past Lord Mayors instead of reverting back to Cllr…
This is something that has always been done, so couldnt really give her an answer other than its a sign of respect of the position they once held. Do any other authorities do the same?
That sounds like a bit of a mouthful and I have never heard of it being used elsewhere. Surely they are just councillors and should be addressed as such?
Our Past Mayors revert to the title of Councillor but they have special purple robes for civic events. When they retire they a invited to civic events as Past Mayors
