Hi - could you let me know who you normally invite to read the Kohima at your Remembrance Sunday service please? We’ve had the same gentleman for many years, but sadly he is in poor health and unable to continue and we will need someone new to do the reading for future services.
Usually the Chairman/woman, or senior member, of the local branch of the RBL. I don’t think they are usually cited by name in the order of service, as that allows flexibility if someone has to stand-in for him/her. We also print the words in the Order of Service also, as an aid to prevent ‘drying’ on the day.
It is usually the same for the Exhortation though, IIRC, I think we may have had serving members of the Armed Forces read those lines on occasion.
Hi, we usually ask a veteran to read it for us. Can differ each time, but if you have an Armed Forces Champion or link with Veteran’s groups you could ask them to assist.
Same as the other reply, we don’t name the person in the order of service in case someone else needs to step in for any reason.
Here is Shrewsbury we use a senior member of the local Royal British Legion.
Hi Karen,
The Mayors chaplain conducts the whole service including the Kohima on Remembrance Sunday. Hope this helps
Julie
We have the Lord Lieutenant or one of his Deputies do the Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph
Thanks to everyone who responded - it would seem that there isn’t a strict protocol for this which is really useful.
