Hi, we are reviewing our social media sites at the Town Council and one person has suggested we close our twitter account as this is now unregulated. I can see that many Mayors and Councils have a X/Twitter account to share news and highlights to engage with the community and I wonder if anyone has any positive feedback on the use of this site that we could use for our review? Many thanks.
there are many social media sites to use ,i believe that it is useful to read / look at these to get a good broad view of what people are talking about .
Hi Alncaz, welcome to the NACO Forum. Do you know of any recommended guides for Councils using Social Media sites please.
I think you have to be clear what it’s going to be used for and by who.
I come across a lot which have been set up with good intention but either have lapsed when that Mayor has moved on or just simply aren’t used.
As with all things, judge if it adds value for the amount of effort.
For ours the Mayor & Deputy Mayor send us pics and synopsis and we post it. Sometimes it’s no different to their own personal/Cllr Facebook feed.
At the moment we have no plan to expand it to other platforms so it’s just used the same as a blog 20 years ago but with slightly better chances of turning up in feeds/search strings. Key thing here- it’s one way, ie not for generating conversations etc.

Thank you Allan, we have decided to keep it for the Mayor/Deputy Mayor’s engagements and national days like Remembrance, Red Ensign Day, etc. Thank you for the information.
