Where to Chain and Where not to Chain, that is the question

Dear colleagues,

Following an interesting discussion recently in relation to the chaining of the Mayor, on events which occur out of the Borough, and require around an hour’s drive; I’d be really interested in anyone’s opinion on the following:

  • Do you think it’s appropriate and fitting, to chain the Mayor (or deputy) in a car park or public street having arrived at a host’s venue?

  • Do you feel that it is more appropriate, in terms of dignity for the Mayor and the chains of office, to chain prior to travel to the venue? Bear in mind this would require the Mayor or Deputy to wear said chains for an hour or more whilst travelling.

  • Or, is it, that there isn’t an issue with a Mayor chaining (themselves) or with the chauffeur/attendant upon arrival and potentially standing by the Mayor’s car.

Thank you, I look forward to reading your thoughts/opinions.

Dave

Our Mayor would always be chained prior to leaving for an event and wear the chains in the car. Not only for it being more “appropriate and fitting” but also from a security point of view.

Thank you Michelle, appreciate your response.

When I was the Mayor of our Borough, the attendant always ensured the Chains were on and correct before leaving our house, and we travelled in the car with them on irrespective of distance
